I didnt know actually. Ok, but I doubt many people would know that. Probably wasnt intended to announce Lister as a complete peado i suspect Well I would hope they didn’t know, or that would be questionable. Though it’s weird they chose THAT page number, implying they did indeed know what was happening in that scene, else it wouldn’t make sense to include it. I suppose Rob and Doug didn't know. They needed a book about sex known to wider audience and then chose a random page number. Well, hopefully, otherwise they are gross people. Why nobody ever asked this at the conventions?

The fact they knew about page 61, is a bit suspect. Cant think why they want to portray their Hero like that though, because there is plenty of alternative choices than a peado book, to write into the script. Seems a bit careless

Because the only people that attend these conventions are people who believe it’s perfectly fine to be a nonce, but will kick up a huge stink if womyns ask to have a separate toilet to men

Seems a bit careless Yes it was an odd choice and looking less and less likely to have been an accident. Yewtree are gonna be onto this.

Granted. There are definately misogynistic aspects of the show, but I personally find them quite lightweight for the most part. Even page 61, I can accept as something that is a very non direct link to seriously dark humour, and the viewer is simply being asked to accept that is a saucy bit of writing. Lister pursuit of Konchanski, Rimmers creepiness, Cats over Sex drive could be interpreted as deeply hostile, but again, its pretty lightweight stuff and the viewer has to take quite a broad leap from humour that hasn't perhaps aged that well, to a distinct presentation of sexism. Its not on the same level as "Some Mothers do 'ave em" and "It ain't Half Hot Mum" for instance.
As for real life. Sounds like there are some proper weird folk hanging about. Me and my mate considered going once, when it was in Birmingham, or Nottingham I think, probably 10 years back, but couldn't get our shit together in time. Not that inclined to be bothered these days

I am one of those (quite a lot of us y’know) who enjoy series 7, for the most part anyway. I like the first 2 eps and last 2. Beyond a Joke and Blue are ok too.
Series 8 is about as ‘wrong direction’ as you can get imo. The resurrected crew idea could have worked if they showed Lister’s struggles to get back to working Z shift under Rimmer after having run of the ship and being a space adventurer for all those years. But the prison setting and the slapstick humour, dancing blue midgets, dinosaurs, rape serum and juvenile humour just makes it the worst RD to date.
BTE starts and ends well, it just sags badly in the middle, bottoming out with a visit to the set of Corrie.
X-XII and TPL are all decent, couple of duds in each series but I’m glad they made them. I do think it’s probably time to wrap it up with one more special, there are lots of ways they could do it, but let’s do it.

They should have kept it how it was when Rimmer would switch places with Kochandki and Kryten was just a head on a screen.

Personally, I think there is scope aplenty to carry on the show. Pretty much agree mostly with what you say above, but the premise of the show is still as sound as it was the 80's. Would love a shot at it myself to be honest. I would go with a longer story arc for one. I would add a proper antagonist as well, either occupying another part of the vessel, or giving chase. I would add one or even 2 more viable side characters, rather than ridiculous talking dispensers. Maybe add an alien race, great white hunter style, who must have the last human being alive so to make him into a man skin rug. Series 6 got it right, Series 7 made too many fundemental changes, and then we ended with series 8, which couldn't have been more wrong
