Let face it!... Lister had every opportunity to get off the ship and get back to Earth.
Statis Leak returned him to Guanamede, 3 weeks before the radiation leak. Why didn't he just stay? Out of Time, Ourroborros, Tikka to Ride, all had the potential to put him back on Earth.
Alternatively, he could have settled on a world like Earth , like Waxworld (Meltdown), Rimmerworld, Lemons, Twentica or Polymorph II. Even the hostile worlds were earth like and supported human life, like Marooned, Quarantine, Terraform.
Discuss!

I assume he wanted the genuine Earth, not just a normal life on a planet with people. Or he wanted to find out what happened to the real Earth...
Or most probably, he just wanted to find and fuck Kochanski. He clearly refused to accept her no meant no, so he couldn't just stay on any random planet.

He's not the brightest to be fair. It almost like he thought he could live 3 million years to find earth, 6 million years on from when he left it. He had opportunity to get to the real earth anyway. In or around his life period. 60s America in Tikka to ride would hae been a pretty close hit considering. He must have tried to screw konkanski when she lived on board. The "last human alive" line might be the best pulling line ever

I like how Lister would have all these various plots and schemes to somehow get his dream of resurrecting, kidnapping and making Kochanski be his girlfriend whether she likes it or not. Lister is a flying predator and unashamed of that fact. The role model of the everyman out there and the hero of scousers.

Do you remember that episode where they rescued a scientist who'd accidentally turned herself into a monkey? The re-evolved her until she turned into a naked blonde bimbo whose tits they stared at for a bit, before she accidentally flushed herself out the airlock. The fate of being ejected into deep space without a space-suit is truly horrific, your death can last up to fifteen minutes and every second of that is filled with desperate agonising pain the likes of which few humans in existence have ever had to endure. Looking back now I suppose Lister should have tried to rescue her instead of leaving her to her slow torturous demise whilst he made a joke about filling out an accident form.

Thats a very good point to make. The writing became too simple. Early Lister would have given a shit to save her, and they could have made a whole episode out of a rescue attempt. She also is another character who could have made an interesting addition to the crew, rather than keep harping on with the stale concept of Konkanski. Lister is the hero to the everyman as Nikki said, and was relatable. If he isnt going to take his opportunities to get off the ship, then at least the concept of life on board needs to be better padded out, while remaining true to its core. Also she was quite fit...

This would never have worked. Lister would’ve just made her his occasional cum dumpster, whilst still banging on about Kochanski. Good old relatable Lister.

I notice also you say "remember that episode" with the blonde monkey chick? I know the episode your referring to and its in one of series 10-12, but I would need to look it up to remember the episode title or plot. I think most of us could reel off 1-6 series episodes with absolute delight and pretty much full recall. Beyond that I have less of a interest for it, because the episodes aren't as defined and plots are all over the place.
Entangled S10E04
I will concede one point however, that just maybe I am of the generation when VHS was King, and you had to select which block of 3 episodes you fancied that evening. It was quite a difficult and ponderable choice, staring at the cassettes for 10 minutes deciding what kind of mood to be in. Do you go simple military grey series 1 & 2, or do you need to go with a bit action and flair of series 3-6. These days we can look at the whole list of episodes at the touch of a button, with no pictures or lovely cover art to prick our interest, which perhaps makes Series 10-12 less of a draw. DVDs were good of course, but the era of VHS was special.

not necessarily through. lister going off tangent, and pursuing crazy monkey chick, could have been quite interesting. he could have had his end away, then chucked her out the air lock.

my arse. i can tell you could quote every line back to me. im sure I dunno about that. I’m not that sort of person in general tbh. I watched the early series’ as repeats on bbc2 in the 90’s when I was like 9 and it was my favourite show for the rest of primary school, but then series 7 ruined it for me personally and never found it very good since. I did used to put the old episodes on, when they were on and I wasn’t doing anything else. I do realise now though that a lot of the dialogue was lost on me over the years as I lost a lot of my hearing and hadn’t really learned to lipread well at that age and I didn’t have a tv with subtitles at that age. So maybe when it comes to quoting stuff, I’m just not great, though I suppose I can do it for The Young Ones which became my favourite at around 13 or 14. I’m not really one for sperging out quotes mind.

Not sure I could quote back too much of it. Certainly not after series 7. Series 1-6 is my happy place though

I think the brutal death was still better for her than staying on the ship with three middle-aged men, who blatantly stared at her naked tits for quite a while.

Thanks for having me. It a forum at the end of the day, and im quite interested on peoples opinions on RD. Obviously I have my own ideas of was is good and what is bad about it, and I would certainly credit it as my favourite show Couldnt care less if people want to get gritty with me if im honest. I have a pretty relaxed ego about these things
